artist bio: Tom Dieter

The majority of my photographic work is people photography;  portraiture of families, groups, individuals and children in the studio, home, office or at various environmental locations. This specialty in people photography has given me a diverse  wealth of experience in the technical and emotional aspects of portrait photography.

In the summer of '79 my amateur photo skills led me to working at an "Old Time Photo Studio", which in turn led me to an assistants position with the owner's husband, a commercial photographer in Boston. From that point there seemed to be no turning back. I  learned as much as I could on my own, also via working experience and private photo classes with an instructor from New England School of Photography.

Before long my present business partner and I opened "Time Machine Photography" on Cape Cod , a seasonal Old Time Photo studio. Eighteen years later, from our present location at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, we  offer a variety of Costumed Portrait choices from the old to modern times.

.

 This business being seasonal, has enabled my experiences to grow in various phases of the industry. Including  working for, managing, and  being Creative Director for studios specializing in Glamour portraiture, School Portraits  and  Sports Action photography.  I have also participated in juried Fine Art and Craft exhibitions with a series of Still Life photos.

.

Since the upstart of digital photography, I have honed my skills with use of the digital camera and it's resultant computer applications. Throughout these past years I have gained considerable knowledge and experience in Commercial photography by assisting my good friend, John Cessna, in his photography business, and commercial photography is becoming an important segment of my own work.
