artist bio: Frank Bolle
.
.........
Frank Bolle was born in Brooklyn New York in 1954. At an early age he showed an interest in drawing. His parents, who were both artists, strongly influenced him as a child. By high school his talent was very evident and he began to pursue his commercial career while still a student.
.
In the early 70's, Frank moved to Connecticut and set-up his commercial art studio in Fairfield County, where he still resides and works today. Over his 25 years as a commercial artist he has had many interesting assignments.  For nine years he was a cartoon artist for the strip "Little Orphan Annie" and several other syndicated cartoons. Although not exclusively, his primary media throughout his career has been ink or ink with watercolor washes. He has worked with other media and even created a paper origami crab for an advertisement for Fraser Paper Company. (Origami crab can be seen in Frank's show)
.
Frank's assignments have included book covers and interior illustrations for publishing companies Bantam, Double Day Dell and others.  His advertising and corporate presentation illustrations have been commissioned by Pepsi, Western Union, Hess Oil Company, Black and Decker, GE and many more. His cartoons and illustrations have also enhanced the pages of many magazines including Saturday Review, National Review, Golf World, Racket Magazine, TV Guide and Highlights Magazine.  Frank also has a large collection of  unpublished cartoons that he hopes to put together in a book some day.
.
In 1988 Frank was one of many cartoonists who had art selected to be included in STRIP AIDS USA, a 140 page book collection of cartoons about AIDS by concerned cartoonists including some of the top names in the industry.  The book was released by Last Gasp, with the proceeds from the nonprofit effort benefiting Shanti Project, a group providing support services to people with AIDS. In addition all the original art works traveled to various cities nation wide for benefit exhibits.  After the traveling shows were completed the original art was auctioned and again the proceeds were used to benefit AIDS victims.
.
This show of his work is an entertaining collection of his art.  It is a representation of many different styles that span many different areas of his commercial career.  The show can be browsed quickly by viewing the smaller copies of the art,  but I highly recommend you take the time to view the larger versions.  Many of Frank's drawings are crammed with detail that requires careful examination to see the wit and humor of this extremely talented illustrator.
